Fire prompts trail closure near Prospectors Point

DEVON -- Clean-up continues after a fire broke out north of Devon this past weekend. 

According to local officials, the fire occurred along a section of the Devonian Trail system in the late afternoon of Sunday, May 18th. Fire services were on scene quickly to create a perimeter around the blaze; however, they were forced to deal with high winds throughout the afternoon and evening.

As of early Tuesday morning, officials put out a statement saying that crews completed their work on various hot spots and fully extinguished the fire. Despite this, the high winds from the previous days caused a number of trees in the area to fall. This prompted the closure of the trail from Range Road 262 to Prospectors Point as clean-up continues.

Residents have been asked to avoid the area due to safety concerns until further notice, as fire crews have left behind flagging tape across the trail to mark it as closed. For updates as to the trail's reopening, you're asked to visit the Parkland County website. 

The Town of Devon remains under a fire restriction as of May 22nd.
