Devonna Klaassen appointed VP of Alberta School Boards Association

EDMONTON -- A local trustee with the Black Gold School Division has been appointed Vice President of the ASBA. 

Devonna Klaassen was recently sworn into her new role and will now serve her first term as Vice President. The Alberta School Boards Association was founded in 1907 and is the only organization representing all public, catholic and francophone school boards in the province. 

Klaassen was first elected as a school board trustee with the BGSD back in 2017. Now in her third term, she has served the Division in a number of capacities over the years, including as both Vice Chair and now Board Chair. She's a resident of the Town of Devon, and she's also a University of Alberta graduate with a degree in Psychology.

In a statement, the Black Gold School Division says that they look forward to Klaassen's leadership in her new role, as the ASBA continues advancing the priorities of Alberta's public, Catholic, and Francophone school boards.

As part of their current mandate, the organization will be advocating for increased funding for students with complex needs as well as new Indigenous spaces in schools.
