LEDUC -- The City of Leduc has released the voter turnout numbers from this week's municipal election.
According to Leduc staff, 28.5 per cent of the City's eligible voters cast a ballot during Monday's election. This means 7,144 of the 25,040 eligible voters in the City of Leduc cast a ballot.
This represents a 1.5 per cent increase from the 2021 election, which saw 27 per cent of eligible voters cast a ballot. Meantime, voter turnout in Leduc has now ticked up slightly in each of the past three elections after participation in the 2013 election reached a 30-year low.
Data shows that voter turnout reached its highest levels in the 90's, as the 1998 civic election saw the most votes ever cast in the City's history. The lowest number of ballots ever cast came back in 1980, when just over 17 per cent of the population voted.
