For World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, join us in raising awareness on elder abuse and discovering ways to support older adults in our community this June!
The Uproot Abuse Campaign aims at increasing awareness of elder abuse, building a strong network to better support seniors in the region and making older adults aware that there are community supports available to help them. The more Uproot Abuse gardens and flower beds in the region neighbourhoods, the more awareness raised!
Visit a local Uproot Abuse Awareness Events in the Tri-Region to learn more on what is elder abuse and which local resources and services are in place to support older adults.
Purple petunias and awareness garden signs will be available for pick-up at these events, so you can help raise awareness at home by planting an Uproot Abuse awareness garden or flower bed this summer.
Children Seed Kits will also be available for pick-up. These kits include purple bean seeds and sowing pods, as well as information to support parents and caregivers in having discussions with children about the importance of having positive interactions with older adults.
In addition, information on elder abuse and local resources and services will be found at your local Tri-Region libraries in the week of June 9-15 and 16-20. Visit your local library to become elder abuse aware!
