Bear Awareness and Wildlife Safety Certification Course

Our Eagle Point-Blue Rapids Parks Council Instructor is AIP Safety Certified.
All participants will receive a Wildlife Safety Certificate from AIP Safety Ltd.

If you spend time in the outdoors, whether you’re working in the field, hiking a trail, camping with your family, or leading a group, you need to feel confident in country. Wildlife encounters are increasing across Western Canada. This doesn’t mean you should avoid the outdoors, it means you need to understand it.

Location: Pembina Nordic Centre, Eagle Point Provincial Park

Who Should Take It?
If you or your employees to train work in outdoor jobs close to bear and/or other wildlife habitats.
If you are an outdoor enthusiast who recreates in areas where wildlife encounters could occur (hunting, fishing, mountain biking, hiking, paddling, camping, ATVing, etc.)

This course reflects the missions and goals of the Alberta BearSmart Program to keep people safe, help bear populations survive and reduce property damage and costs by reducing human-bear conflict.

What the Course Covers
• Natural History of Alberta’s Most Dangerous Wild Animals
• Human-Bear Encounters, Other Human-Wildlife Encounters & Conflicts
• Avoidance Measures
• Deterrents
• Practical Component (Participants will practice spraying inert bear spray)

IMPORTANT
Participants must be physically fit and capable of moving freely in an outdoor environment to participate in this course. If you have mobility restrictions, please reach out to outreach@epbrcouncil.org to determine if this workshop is a good fit for you.

This workshop will run rain or shine, so please dress for the weather.
