LEDUC -- The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 3484 has officially served 72 hours’ notice of job action to Black Gold School Division.
Starting Monday, February 24th, all BGSD support staff and educational assistants will start full strike action and will not provide labour services to students. The Division says most students will continue to attend school normally, however, for safety and programming reasons, some students will be moved to full-time or part-time at-home learning while job action is ongoing.
The Black Gold School Division also notes they recognize that the impacts of job action are disruptive and challenging to families and schools, and that BGSD’s bargaining team is scheduled to meet with CUPE Local 3484’s representatives on Tuesday, February 25th, to continue their negotiations.
They add that they remain hopeful that they can reach a settlement with their support staff at the bargaining table, and will keep the public updated on the status of negotiations. Parents will receive either a phone call or email indicating whether your child will be placed in at-home programming.
Additional updates on this story will be shared in the coming days.
