LEDUC -- The driver of a semi-truck has been charged with careless driving following a four-vehicle collision on the QE II.

According to Leduc RCMP, the crash occurred shortly after 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2026. They report that four vehicles -- two passenger vehicles and two semi-trucks -- collided near Township Road 492. As a result, all lanes of QE II northbound were impassable throughout the afternoon due to the presence of large debris and a diesel spill.

The highway was closed between Township Road 490 and Highway 2A during this time, and area traffic was diverted. The northbound lanes of the QE II reopened at approximately 9:00 p.m., according to authorities.

RCMP note that there were minor injuries to the driver of one of the passenger vehicles and that the driver of one of the semi-trucks was charged with careless driving under the Traffic Safety Act. Leduc RCMP are reminding motorists to leave sufficient space between vehicles while travelling on the highway to allow for slowing traffic or abrupt stops.
