LEDUC COUNTY -- A petition calling on the province to implement enhanced safety measures at Highway 2A and Glen Park Road continues to build momentum.

As of the time of this article, the petition has garnered well over 1,300 signatures from concerned residents. It describes the intersection as one of the most dangerous areas in the region, and expresses the need for additional safety measures to be implemented.

Residents say that despite some safety improvements already having been made, the Highway 2A at Glen Park Road intersection remains a serious hazard to local residents, commuters, agricultural traffic, and commercial vehicles. They cite high speeds, poor sight lines, and ongoing traffic flow issues as the sole reasons why this particular intersection is a daily risk for drivers.

The petition calls on Alberta's Ministry of Transportation and Economic Corridors to conduct a full safety and traffic engineering review of the intersection, and to implement immediate interim safety measures. These include enhanced signage, speed reductions, rumble strips, and improved lighting in the area. It also asks the province to develop and prioritize a permanent reconfiguration plan to reduce the frequency and severity of collisions.
