LEDUC -- The City of Leduc continues its efforts to facilitate new residential development.
The latest move has seen the municipality approve a major expansion of the Woodbend neighbourhood. This comes as part of Bylaw 1223-2025, which received its second and third readings at this week's regular council meeting. The newly approved bylaw will allow for the development of approximately 8.6 hectares of the northwestern portion of the neighbourhood.
This will pave the way for a total of 98 new residential lots in the Woodbend area, which will include 15 standard single detached, 53 zero lot line single detached, and 30 standard single detached. Three public utility lots for servicing and walkway connections will also be included in the area, as well as two municipal reserve lots for a passive park area and a portion of a school site.
April Renneberg -- Senior Planner with the City of Leduc -- presented the full scope of the plan during the public hearing portion of this week's council meeting. She says the plan aligns with the City's overall vision.
"The proposed redistricting will allow for development that's in keeping with the Municipal Development Plan, West Area Structure Plan, and Woodbend Outline Plan," said Renneberg. "Landowners in proximity were referred the initial redistricting application."
The newly approved plan for Woodbend also aligns with the City of Leduc's 2009 Neighbourhood Design Guidelines. Leduc Council has taken a variety of steps this year to accommodate the City's continued rapid growth, which is expected to see the local population grow substantially over the next several years.
