The crash took place along Highway 21 near Highway 623 on Wednesday, September 24, at around 4:30 in the afternoon. According to Leduc RCMP, it involved two SUVs that collided head-on. Constable Lindsay McNab says that emergency crews were on scene shortly after.
"Upon arrival, emergency workers assisted five involved occupants," said Cst. McNab. "One 36-year-old male from one vehicle, and a 35-year-old woman from another vehicle, were deceased at the scene."
Cst. McNab says that the three other occupants involved in the collision were taken to hospital with varying injuries, and their current conditions are not known at this time. RCMP remained on scene for several hours as they began their investigation into the cause of the crash.
"There is still an investigation ongoing into the cause of the collision," said Cst. McNab. "So that's all we can say at this time."
She adds that the Alberta RCMP would like to express their condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
