BEAUMONT -- Leduc-Beaumont MLA Brandon Lunty has issued a statement in response to the City of Beaumont's concerns over proposed provincial boundary changes.
This comes after Beaumont City Council approved a letter to Alberta's Electoral Boundaries Commission, calling on them to reconsider their plans to split Beaumont into two separate provincial constituencies. If the plans go ahead, properties west of 50 Street will remain in the Leduc-Beaumont riding, while those east of 50 Street will join the newly proposed Strathcona-Sherwood Park constituency.
In a statement to 93.1 The One, MLA Lunty writes:
"I understand the concerns raised by the City of Beaumont and encourage council and residents to continue participating in the commission’s public consultation process, so their perspectives are fully considered," said Lunty. "The Electoral Boundaries Commission is an independent body that will release its final report in March. We will be reviewing the report and the recommendations when they are brought forward."
It's noted in their letter from Dec. 9, 2025, that the City of Beaumont feels that splitting the municipality into two separate provincial ridings would diminish its representation in the Alberta legislation.
They also add that Beaumont residents share schools, recreation facilities, cultural services, emergency response arrangements, and transportation networks, and that Beaumont, Leduc, and Leduc County form an integrated and functional regional community with strong social, economic, institutional, transportation, and service connections.
