LEDUC -- The City of Leduc's Traffic Advisory Committee has been named the recipient of a provincial award.
The committee has been honoured with the 2025 Minister’s Award for Community Engagement or Livability. This award recognizes their work over the past year in bolstering traffic safety in the City of Leduc. Based on recommendations from the advisory board, Leduc has implemented several initiatives over the past year. These include a speed reduction to 40 km/hour on neighbourhood streets and crosswalk safety infrastructure.
"As a Council, we’ve been proud to support the work of TAC – especially when it comes to improving accessibility and responding quickly to community concerns," said Leduc Mayor Bob Young. "Our work reflects what we can achieve when the City, its partners, and community voices come together – a safer, more connected Leduc."
Other initiatives led by the City's Traffic Advisory Committee saw speed tables added to Alton Drive to reduce the speed and volume of traffic, and new crosswalk safety infrastructure on collector roads.
"As a cross-functional team, we bring together Engineering, Public Services, Transit, Fire, Enforcement, the RCMP and Council members to review public traffic concerns and recommend meaningful changes that will enhance community safety," said Shawn Olson, GM of Infrastructure and Planning.
Over the past year, they've also updated the City's traffic bylaw to allow for temporary parking bans for more efficient snow removal.
