NISKU -- Two suspects have been charged following another break-and-enter in the Nisku area.
Leduc RCMP say the incident from Jan. 7, 2026, took place at a business near 5 Street and 22 Avenue at approximately 10:40 a.m. It was reported that a witness observed an individual going under a fence and carrying items to a vehicle. Officers attended the location and located the suspect vehicle, which fled from the scene.
With the assistance of RCMP air service (MPP), Leduc crime reduction unit, CAD crime reduction unit, and Edmonton Police Service, the suspects were arrested nearby in Edmonton. As a result, 31-year-old Nicole Powder and 32-year-old Dylan Houle, both residents of Edmonton, have been charged with the following:
- Flight from Peace Officer
- Break and enter
- Possess break-in instruments
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000
- Dangerous operation of motor vehicle
- Mischief under $5000
Houle has additionally been charged with:
- Fail to comply with release order condition
- Numerous infractions under the Traffic Safety Act
This incident marked the third break-and-enter reported in the Nisku area for the month of January. The other two incidents occurred on Jan. 19, when a man was caught stealing copper wire from a local business, and on Jan. 26, when two suspects were arrested after cutting through a business's fenceline and entering the property.
In a previous statement issued to 93.1 The One, Leduc RCMP had noted that Nisku has been a target for criminals due to the many industrial businesses in the area. With these incidents continuing to be reported frequently, RCMP Crime Prevention Liaison Chad Cronk is reminding business owners of crime prevention practices.
"That's taking a look at things like surveillance or natural security, installing alarm systems and cameras, investing in good quality cameras, and ensuring that they align with the lighting around the property," said Cronk. "You also want to ensure that valuables are secured away from windows at all hours, and make sure that you're investing in fences to reinforce the territoriality of the business."
Cronk says business crime remains prominent across the province, as thieves continue to target things like copper wire.
