LEDUC -- Leduc residents are encouraged to join community partners in recognizing Disability Employment Awareness Month.

National Disability Employment Awareness Month (DEAM) is observed every October to promote workplace inclusion, accessibility, and equal employment opportunities for people with disabilities. To mark this occasion, the Leduc LINX Connect Centre will be hosting a pair of events this week in hopes of bringing together community partners and local residents.

The first event will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 6, in the parking lot of the Leduc Public Library. It will feature a gathering of local government leaders, employers, and residents, and include a walk throughout downtown Leduc in support of DEAM.

"There will be a few speeches, one from one of the head organizers of the rally, and also Leduc Mayor Lars Hansen and MLA Brandon Lunty, who will also be making a couple comments," said Sam Knight with the Leduc's LINX Connect Centre. "We encourage everyone to bring signs that say whatever feels right for them, and what they would like to people to know about Disability Employment Awareness Month, and also to wear red to show a visual support."

Then, on Wednesday, Oct. 7, the organization will be co-hosting the "2026 Leduc Chamber Luncheon: The Inclusive Workforce Conversation", in partnership with the Leduc & District Chamber of Commerce. This will include a panel of local employers from the City of Leduc, Kal Tire, and Leduc Produce Market, to gain insights and discover how inclusion can strengthen businesses.

"It's going to be at Royal Hotel, and if you buy a ticket, you get a lunch, and also an opportunity to hear from inclusive employers," said Knight.

The event will take place starting with lunch at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, followed by the main program from noon until 1:00 p.m.
