LEDUC -- Leduc residents are being invited to help shape the design of the city's new skatepark.

The decision to pursue a new community skatepark for the municipality was rendered back in March after a presentation from administration detailed the deteriorating conditions of the current amenity. Their report, which contained data gathered from external consultation, determined that the skateboard park is near the end of its lifecycle after being constructed nearly twenty years ago.

As part of their process to design a completely new skatepark, Leduc staff are now seeking input from the public as to what residents would like to see in the new amenity. This comes after previous consultation determined that a street-style design was preferred over a bowl design to allow for continuous flow and higher speed movement. Attendees had also emphasized the importance of safety and inclusivity, while future amenity suggestions also included increased safety measures, such as police patrols.

On Thursday, Oct. 8, 2026, residents are invited to attend another public consultation opportunity at the Leduc Recreation Centre. This will provide members of the public with a chance to learn about the ongoing development process and to provide feedback about which features are desired for the new skatepark. It will take place from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the LPH Room.

The workshop will include a presentation for "Skateparks 101," a case study showcasing modern skate parks and providing examples of what could be incorporated in the new park, and a specific design input session where attendees will have the opportunity to share thoughts on the design possibilities. Registration is not required to participate in the workshop.
