LEDUC -- The Leduc Grain Elevator will be introducing Weekly Friday Markets as part of their new events for 2026.
This will come as the latest addition to a growing number of events and celebrations hosted by the iconic facility during the calendar year. While specific details such as a start date have not yet been announced, President Larry Fecho says the new Friday Markets will be hosted in partnership with Alberta Made Market.
"The one bigger one this year is going to be the Friday Markets on our site weekly," said Fecho. "We've partnered with Alberta Made Markets to make this happen. It's going to increase downtown area traffic, it's going to expose all the way through, so we're excited about it. Personally, I was a little nervous about every week -- but you don't know until you try."
As the operators of one of Leduc's most recognizable landmarks, the Alberta Legacy Development Society is hoping to build on the Grain Elevator's recent momentum with even more new events and initiatives in the future. More than 10,000 people have attended these events over the past two years, highlighted by their Canada Day Celebrations in partnership with the City of Leduc and community organizations.
The ALDS is also looking to develop a May to September tour program in conjunction with Leduc's other historical sites as well as new school programs to build interest in local history. They cite maintaining local historical assets as a challenge, which will need to be addressed with consultation with experts in this field.
