LEDUC -- Leduc Fire Services is joining forces with the local RCMP detachment to promote literacy through reading at the Leduc Library.
The "Read with the RCMP" campaign will see first responders attend the library on the first Thursday of every month to engage with families and children in the spirit of reading and literacy. Mounties invite residents to meet local first responders in a relaxed, educational setting, and say that the initiative aims to build positive relationships between families and emergency services personnel while encouraging a love of reading.
"It's a great chance to demonstrate to Leduc how first responder agencies do more than just respond to calls," said Cst. Stephen Curtiss of the Leduc RCMP. "We work together to make our community a better place to live."
Cst. Curtiss says the free community event will provide an opportunity for families to engage with police officers outside of emergency situations, building trust and understanding between first responders and the community they serve. Families interested in attending can visit the Leduc Public Library located at 2 Alexandra Park Drive on the first Thursday of each month at 10:00 a.m.
