LEDUC COUNTY -- Leduc County is exploring plans to enhance rural bus service.
During the County's budget presentations on Monday, November 24, Director of Engineering and Utilities Des Mryglod brought forward administration's proposed plans for growing transit in the region. As part of their 2026 Transit Action Plan, Leduc County is considering the possibility of creating a new bus route from East Vistas to Beaumont.
"There was a desire to have transit services re-established to the East Vistas," said Mryglod. "What the intent is, is in Q1 we would provide a report to Council on options providing a pilot project to the East Vistas, and pending on budget availability, we'd roll that into final budget."
Mryglod says that if the plans for a new route are approved by Council early next year, then a pilot project would be initiated for Q3 2026. Another possible plan onto the table would include the expansion of Leduc Transit services to other communities, including the Town of Devon.
"This is something that had rolled out of the regional transit services commission, where we look at a sub-regional approach," said Mryglod. "Leduc Transit has a great model. Let's build that model and see if there are more partners in that joint venture."
The final item listed under their Action Plan for 2026 includes determining opportunities for regional collaboration regarding transit.
