LEDUC COUNTY -- The estimated completion date for Leduc County's broadband infrastructure project has been delayed.

Work on the major project has been underway since last year, and has included the installation of new fibre optic cable and enclosures for network equipment and connections in various areas of the rural county. This work is being undertaken by Xplore Inc, with funding from both the federal and provincial governments through the Universal Broadband Fund and the Alberta Ministry of Technology and Innovation.

While the project had originally been slated to wrap up this summer, Leduc County staff have announced that the new estimated completion date has been pushed back until at least September due to the problems caused by near-record rainfall throughout the month of June. Once complete, new high-speed internet access will be available to residents living in rural and remote areas of the county.

The installation of fibre optic cable and grade-level boxes is taking place at multiple locations, including Vantage Point, Gateway Estates, The Highlands, Strawberry Estates, Looma Estates, Hilltop Estates, Paterson Park, Brookside, and Twin Peaks Ranch Estates. The full location list can be found in this previous article from October 2025.
