DEVON -- The Town of Devon and the Alberta RCMP have partnered to launch a one-year pilot project.
Devon staff say the pilot is designed to enhance policing services, strengthen community trust, and improve efficiency. RCMP Inspector Kevin McGillivray says the pilot allows them to explore innovative ways to conduct operations.
"Policing is about more than enforcement—it’s about building trust and supporting healthy, safe communities," said Inspector McGillivray. "This pilot allows us to explore innovative ways to deliver service while keeping Devon residents at the heart of everything we do."
He says this will introduce a new regional approach while ensuring residents continue to receive dedicated service. This new model is being explored as current federal municipal policing contracts are set to expire in 2032.
"Our community deserves policing that is reliable, sustainable, and responsive," said Devon Mayor Jeff Craddock. "By working in partnership with the RCMP on this pilot, we are setting the stage for a model that not only meets today’s needs but also prepares us for the future of community safety."
Throughout the pilot, residents will continue to be served by their local detachment office and RCMP members based in Devon. The integration of resources with the Parkland detachment is designed to ensure a stable level of service while allowing the RCMP and Town Administration to review options for the future.
The pilot project will run for one year, concluding in spring 2026.
