DEVON -- A new commemorative crosswalk will be coming to the Town of Devon.
The idea for the painted crosswalk was brought forward by the local Royal Canadian Legion during Devon's regular council meeting on September 22, 2025. Legion President Matt White says the new crosswalk will honour local veterans.
"It is a visible, daily reminder of the sacrifices our veterans and service members have made for our country," said White. "It helps integrate our members into everyday life -- not only during special ceremonies -- but every time residents cross the street."
The new commemorative crosswalk will be located on Huron Street, between the Legion Branch and Norma Dee's. It will feature a stylized maple leaf that honours service members and is supported by Canadian Heritage for community use. White says that the idea for the new crosswalk has been widely supported by the community.
"To ensure this proposal reflected the wishes of our community, we conducted a survey between September 2nd and 10th," said White. "We received 191 responses, and 180 were in support."
The creation of the crosswalk will be primarily funded by the Legion.
