THORSBY -- Two candidates are running in the Town of Thorsby's mayoral race.

The first candidate is Carol Rempel, while the second is incumbent Mayor Darryl Hostyn. Speaking to 93.1 The One, Hostyn reflected on some of the Town's biggest accomplishments over the past four years.

"When I took over, in my opinion, the office was in a bit of disarray," said Hostyn. "We've straightened out the budget process, we've straightened out the accounting, we've got people in place and a great team in there."

He cites the new water partnership between Thorsby and Wetaskiwin County as another major accomplishment, saying this will bring a new revenue stream to the Town in the coming years.

"That's going to provide us some very good revenue, and take some of our expenses off," said Hostyn. "Down the line, hopefully, we can start reducing some taxes and fixing some streets."

Hostyn was first elected as Mayor in 2021 and will be looking to secure his second term on October 20th. He discussed some of his goals and priorities for his next term, if re-elected by the residents of Thorsby.

"We have one project already lined up, we're going to pave two blocks on 53rd Avenue," said Hostyn. "I want to start showing a little bit more for the people of the Town as far as the services."

Hostyn will be up against Carol Rempel, who says she plans to represent the residents and businesses of Thorsby in a fair and transparent manner. Her background is in business, management, and financial budgeting.
