
LEDUC COUNTY -- Criminal activity in Leduc County saw a significant decline throughout the first four months of 2025.
This is according to the Leduc RCMP's Q1 crime statistics, which show that overall criminal offences in Leduc County fell by 20 per cent from January to April when compared to the same period in 2024. This includes a decrease in a number of major categories.
Break-and-enters have seen the biggest drop so far this year, as there was a 60.5 per cent decrease in the first four months of 2025 when compared to the same time last year. Mounties say there were 46 fewer actual occurrences (from 76 in 2024 to 30 in 2025).
Meantime, motor vehicle thefts are also down so far this year, as the stats show that 24.1 per cent fewer vehicles were stolen during the first quarter than compared to Q1 2024. There have also been 98 fewer property crime offences and three fewer persons crime offences.
Despite the strong numbers, one of the categories that did see an increase from January 1st to April 30th was thefts under $5,000, which rose by 13 per cent. There were a total of eighteen more instances of these crimes during Q1 2025 than the same period last year.
For their upcoming initiatives, the Leduc RCMP say that bait vehicles and equipment, drug Investigations, and targeted enforcement will all be areas of focus. They also note that conducting more proactive patrols, including additional foot patrols in the Town of Calmar. Traffic Safety Enforcement will also be an area of focus for RCMP in the coming months.
