BEAUMONT -- Councillor Catherine McCook is looking to become the new Mayor of Beaumont.
McCook's platform focuses on economic development, community safety, and enhancing local green spaces. She has experience in non-profit, corporate, and municipal service sectors, has served on Council since 2021.
Speaking to 93.1 The One, she says one of her top priorities would be to attract new economic opportunities for the municipality.
"I was one of the kids that had to drive out of town for work when I was teen in Beaumont," said McCook. "I know that's why it's important to attract opportunities as well as amenities that also make the young people and families want to stay and build their lives here."
McCook says that if elected as Beaumont's new Mayor, she would also work to build connection and confidence in the City's local governance, and improve core services and future sustainability. She adds that she would implement a measured approach in terms of managing the City's rapid growth.
"I think we need to be strategic in how we bring them in, how we grow, and we need to make sure we maintain our charm, and what makes Beaumont so attractive," said McCook.
McCook is a lifelong resident of Beaumont and currently has a family with two children. When she was 21-years-old, she became the District Commissioner for the Clearwater Valley Pony Club, and also helped found the Beaumont Horse Trials.
For the October 20th vote, McCook will be up against Lisa Vanderkwaak, Duanne Mann, and Gil Poitras. One of these four candidates will take over for current Mayor Bill Daneluik, who is running for a spot on Council this time around.
