CALMAR -- The annual Calmar Days celebrations will take place this weekend.

The festivities will run from Friday, August 15th, to Sunday, August 17th, and feature a variety of events and activities throughout the Calmar community. Things will get underway on Friday night with an outdoor movie at Corg Park, followed by a packed day of events set for Saturday. Speaking to the One, Mayor Sean Carnahan unpacked a busy day set for August 16th.

"We start the day off with a pancake breakfast at 8:30 in the morning in the Mike Karbonik Arena parking lot," said Mayor Carnahan. "We'll have the mega market of course -- which is the showcase sidewalk sale up and down Main Street -- along with many garage sales throughout the community. At 11 o'clock we'll have the annual parade."

The Calmar Parade serves as one of the main features of the weekend festivities and will take place along Main Street. Mayor Carnahan says that during the parade, as well as the other events planned for Saturday, residents can anticipate some disruptions to local traffic flow.

"That's the day, Saturday, that we recognize a lot of traffic slowdowns and hiccups," said Carnahan. "It's a primary highway coming through our community, there will be traffic stoppage during the parade, with some re-routing abilities."

Other events scheduled for Saturday at the Mike Karbonik Arena include the Thistle Hill Farms petting zoo, FitSet Ninja, the gaming bus, Catherine McMillan Caricature's, and Magic Pixie Brush Entertainment. There will also be food trucks on hand, and the day’s festivities will wrap up with the annual fireworks show starting at 10:00 p.m. Mayor Carnahan talks about how special it is to be able to continue this traditional weekend event for residents.

"I've been in our community for twenty years now and Calmar Days has always been the signature event," said Carnahan. "It’s a great way to come out and visit the community, wander around and see the neighbourhoods, meet people, and just enjoy a weekend away from the roar of everyday life."
