BEAUMONT -- The City of Beaumont has launched its Clean Energy Improvement Program in partnership with Alberta Municipalities.
The new program will help homeowners finance energy-efficient and renewable energy upgrades for residential properties. According to Beaumont staff, the program offers flexible, low-interest financing that covers upfront project costs. Environmental Lead Lenore Turner discussed some of the eligible projects included in the program in conversation with 93.1 The One.
"Anything from doors and windows, and insulation to heat pumps, boilers," said Turner. "Renewable energy upgrades like solar panels, lighting, and ventilation. There's a full list that can be found on the CEIP website."
Turner says the program's low-interest financing covers up to 100 per cent of project costs (up to $50,000) at a fixed interest rate of 3.5 per cent. Residents who participate in the program can also take up to twenty years to pay the loan back, or pay it off early at any time without penalty. The Clean Energy Improvement Program also includes rebates.
"They can also access $400 rebates for all approved completed projects," said Turner. "Any projects that reach 30 per cent energy efficiency or a 30 per cent reduction in energy use, they can also access an additional $700 in rebates. That's another bonus of this program."
The City of Beaumont will be offering the program for four years through to 2030. To qualify for financing and rebates, residents must apply and receive project approval before starting any home upgrades.
