LEDUC COUNTY -- A major expansion of the Pigeon Lake Campground is slated to get underway next month.
According to Alberta Parks, the expansion project will see the construction of the new camping loop, with work expected to take place throughout the 2026 operational season. Their advisory states that heavy equipment and construction crews will be on site working on the project starting on March 1, 2026.
Alberta Parks notes that the areas scheduled for construction will have minimal impact on the existing campsites. However, they are anticipating construction noise to be present during daytime hours while the expansion is taking place. During the work, visitors of the Pigeon Lake Campground will continue to be able to access the existing camping loops, group use areas, and day use areas.
Members of the public are asked to follow the direction of all signage and personnel in the area, and to stay out of active construction zones. Updates to their construction advisory will be posted throughout the duration of the project as construction progresses and project schedule details are finalized.
In a statement, the Government of Alberta says they are committed to ensuring all visitors have a safe experience in provincial parks, and all visitors are prohibited from going beyond barriers set in place.
Pigeon Lake Provincial Park is located in the southwestern section of Leduc County and features spacious sites surrounded by mixed forest and a 10 km trail system. During the winter months, visitors can take in a variety of winter activities, including access to the lake for ice fishing, winter walks, and groomed trails for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and more.
